This painting used as a reference, a copy of the photograph taken by photo-journalist Steve McCurry which appeared on the cover of National Geographic. The girl is Sharbat Gula, better known as 'the girl with green eyes' or 'The Afghan Girl'. The underpainting is Verdaccio and the skin was rendered with a scumbling technique. This was my third painting and first one on linen which provides a smoother surface than cotton canvas.
